FIRST.IL is a comprehensive treatment program for individuals who have had a first episode of a psychotic illness. The FIRST.IL team members work together to provide treatment, information, and support to clients, their families and significant others.

You or someone you know may be:

■ Having serious problems at work or school

■ Seeing or hearing things that others do not see or hear

■ Having fixed beliefs not shared by others

■ Withdrawing from social interactions

■ Speaking or thinking in a disorganized way

■ Feeling paranoid

These are all signs that someone may be at risk for a psychotic illness.

Early treatment is very important. Research suggests that the sooner treatment of a psychotic illness begins, the better the chances of a faster and more complete recovery. With treatment, people with psychotic illness can and do get better!

“As I often say, in my more than 40 years with schizophrenia, there’s never been a better time to be a person with a serious mental illness. There is more hope now than ever before.”

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS

BEW Supported Living Facility (SLF) & Community Support Residential (CSR)

BEW’s residential program serves as a viable community alternative to psychiatric hospitalization.

BEW Supported Living Facility (SLF) & Community Support Residential (CSR) have been in existence for nearly three decades.

BEW provides temporary and transitional housing for male and female adults, 18 years and older, who are experiencing psychiatric, emotional, situational, and environmental crises.

Consumers residing in either the CSR or SLF facilities benefit from a structured, safe, drug-free living environment to enhance their community stabilization and gain/reinforce independent living skills.

The SLF/CSR facilities are located in the Garfield Park area, within walking distance of Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, Inc. Residential Services Program staff also provides medication monitoring on-site to ensure both medication compliance and optimal medication efficacy for the SLF/CSR consumers.

DUI PROGRAM

The DUI program works to reduce the incidence and prevalence of DUI offenses.

Our agency is licensed by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Abuse (DASA) and approved by Cook County Circuit Courts to provide treatment services to teenagers and adults who have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and other illicit drugs.

The DUI program works to reduce the incidence and prevalence of DUI offenses by providing our consumers with assessments, education, early intervention, counseling, treatment services, and aftercare services.

We provide a healthy and supportive atmosphere, treating consumers with dignity and respect. Our professional staff is knowledgeable and experienced in working with circuit courts, probation officers, and Illinois Secretary of State Hearings helping consumers to re-gain or maintain their driving privileges.

In adherence to the circuit courts and Illinois Secretary of State’s requirements, every individual arrested for DUI must undergo an alcohol and drug evaluation before sentencing. This evaluation determines a DUI risk classification.

Based upon the recommendation from an evaluation, we provide services relevant to the following risk classifications:

Minimal Risk

  • 10 hours of DUI risk education classes

Moderate Risk

  • 10 hours of DUI risk education classes

  • 12 hours of early intervention counseling

Significant Risk
