SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT

 

SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SEP) & INDIVIDUAL PLACEMENT SUPPORT (IPS) PROGRAM

Supported Employment Programs assists consumers in obtaining gainful employment. BEW offers two Supported Employment Programs:

1. The Supported Employment Program (SEP) is a vocational and employment training program for consumers who have intellectual disabilities. SEP is designed to help consumers identify and retain gainful employment at various capacities. 

SEP consists of four (4) phases leading to jobs opportunities (i.e., janitorial services, fast food restaurants, grocery stores, etc.):

  1. Job Readiness,

  2. Job Training ,

  3. Job Placement, and 

  4. Post Placement

2. The Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Program is an evidenced-based employment program for consumer’s between the ages of 18 and 24 who have been diagnosed with a serious mental illness. IPS is recovery oriented and assists consumers in obtaining and retaining employment within local businesses.

IPS offers the following:

  • Job Coaching

  • Resume Development

  • Pre-Interview Training

  • Support while on the job

According to the Social Security Administration, there are over 8 million disabled workers in the United States. These workers often face challenges such as stereotyping, discrimination, and a lack of accommodations.

Thankfully, there are a variety of legal protections and employment resources available that help people with disabilities overcome these challenges and advance their careers.

YOUTH, ADULT, AND FAMILY SERVICES

 

BEW provides integrated outpatient therapeutic services to children, adolescents, adults and families.

Treatment is designed to achieve symptom reduction, build resiliency, and protect against symptom relapse in the home, school and community. Services include:

  • Individual therapy (Child, Adolescent, & Adult)

  • Couples therapy Family therapy

  • Group therapy

  • Psychiatric Services

The Clinical Therapist collaborates with support systems (i.e. Family, Friends, Service Providers) and systems of impact (i.e. School, DCFS, Court Involved) to improve treatment outcomes and enhance long-term sustainability. Note: Consumers who present with co-occurring conditions (i.e. substance use, and emotional/behavioral concerns) are linked with other programs within the agency and can also be referred to outside providers to meet treatment needs.

DEVELOPMENTAL TRAINING

DTP enhances each consumers ability to function at their highest level. Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) and Training Counselors focus on the development and enhancement of daily functional skills including:  

  • Rehabilitation training

  • Gross motor development

  • Cognitive development

  • Self-esteem

  • Enhanced language usage/communication skills

  • Socialization

  • Adaptive and independent living skills

Consumers risk of institutionalization (i.e. psychiatric hospitals, nursing homes, and residential placements) is decreased due to their daily engagement in programming. For higher functioning consumers the goal is workshop placement and job attainment. 

Services are extended to consumer's families and significant others, utilizing a holistic family empowerment approach.
