The Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, Inc., is a non-profit that has been providing quality mental health care, addictions treatment, and developmental disability services for more than 51 years. B.E.W. provides support and treatment to youth, adults and families living within Chicago’s Westside communities and surrounding areas.

We provide a holistic, evidenced-based approach, toward positive mental health in the home, at work and in the community. We partner with each consumer to strive towards accomplishing their individual goals. These services are available to all persons who meet the admission criteria regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, religion, etc. No one is denied services due to inability to pay.

The Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Behavioral Health Center, Inc. (B.E.W.) was originally incorporated as the Garfield Park Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center, Inc. in 1973. By 1976 the Garfield Park Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center received a Department of Health, Education and Welfare grant to promote and strengthen the concept of community mental health services.

The Board of Directors appointed Dr. Bobby E. Wright as the first Executive Director of the agency. Under his leadership, the agency grew from one sheltered workshop program to eleven clinical programs. Following Dr. Wright's death in 1982, the agency was named the Bobby E. Wright Comprehensive Community Mental Health Center. The agency continues Dr. Bobby E. Wright’s philosophy of commitment, accountability and excellence of service to the community.

VISION

Community mental health must be grounded in evidenced-based approaches and best practices that reflect the cultural and individual beliefs of persons served.

Our vision for mental health service delivery encompasses models that are flexible, meeting consumers where they are.

BEW will become the leader in addressing mental health needs within the community, especially for children and adolescents who experience substance abuse, trauma and emotional/behavioral problems.

BEW administers evidenced-based, culturally competent programs to address the need of all residents of the Westside communities of Garfield Park, Austin, North Lawndale and surrounding areas.

Our services will be accessible within the communities where residents reside and will utilize best practices in order to effectively connect with consumers of all ages.

Service delivery will be informed by input from consumers, stakeholders, while also based upon research informed interventions. Services are delivered efficiently and effectively within locations that are comfortable for consumers (i.e. in their homes and within the community).

MISSION & VALUES

BEW’s mission is to improve the quality of life for Chicago’s Westside residents by providing the highest quality of mental health, substance abuse, and developmental disabilities services to children, adolescents, and adults within a cultural context that is sensitive to the community.
